La Barcelona Incòmoda
Barcelona’s heritage is full of links to its dictatorial, colonialist and slaver past. What should modern cities do with buildings and monuments that have a shady origin? Barcelona City Council organized ‘La Barcelona Incòmoda’ (The Uncomfortable Barcelona), a series of talks and debates around this topic.
To design its communication campaign, we focused on the most famous and controversial monument in the city: Columbus’s statue. By cropping its right arm, we resignified Columbus’s finger —originally pointing to America— and transformed it into an inculpatory finger.
